Food Sources

admin — Tue, 03/25/2008 - 19:54

This is a list of many of the local sources that we use to get the ingredients we need to create our recipes. Depending on the season, the availability from different sources, and the coordination of deliveries, we'll get different things from different people throughout the year. Sometimes we purchase ingredients through local distributors, and other times we get them directly from the original source- the farmer, the fisherman, the coffee roaster, etc.

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters

elena — Sun, 03/16/2008 - 20:26

This small roaster, soon to be turning into a full cafe, is located on La Jolla Blvd. just north of Pacific Beach. Chuck, who started the business in 2001 after leaving his job as a college English professor, imports only organic or socially responsible beans from the major coffee-growing regions of the world- Africa and South America mostly. Most of the bean are certified organically grown, sustainably farmed, and fair trade certified.

Sea Rocket, Salt & Sardines

elena — Wed, 03/05/2008 - 00:00

What an incredibly fun and fulfilling day this was! We finally saw sea rocket in the flesh (well, sand actually), found sardines (a mere 50 feet away from shore), and dropped in on a local salt company. It was like a scavenger hunt, which is how a lot of our days have felt, wandering around parts of San Diego county where we’ve never ventured before and being pointed in different directions by each person we try to get information from… We started this day off with a visit to Tuna Harbor, since I guess many of the fishermen there catch tuna.
