San Diego Coffee, Tea & Spice

I found San Diego Coffee, Tea & Spice this afternoon online. And what a nice surprise to find out that they are at 5026 Cass Street down the street from my place. This happy coincidence led to a short bike ride and a tour of their roasting facility. Steve May runs the company which has been around since 1979. The front of their location is a cafe and the back is a warehouse and roasting area.

They have an impressive client list including The Marine Room, Chive, Pamplemousse Grille, and other high end restaurants. They sell a full line of coffee, tea, spices, and provide additional related services such as making custom spice mixes for restaurants based on their own recipes. One line of their coffees is triple certified, meaning that they are organic, shade grown (grown around trees instead of cutting them down), and fair trade. The beans are purchased mostly from Latin America.

They also own San Pasqual Winery along with Erik Humphrey. San Pasqual Winery just happens to be close by as well, so I'm sure I'll be heading over there next time I jump on my bike.
