"Grand Opening"
elena — Mon, 07/21/2008 - 16:59
We've been open for a while now, so we thought we'd throw a party. Or maybe a few.
San Diego has an amazing local craft brewing scene and we're happy to be a part of that with 6 local beers on draft. We've been talking to the experts about doing some beer and seafood pairings and what we've found is that the fishermen think their fish tastes even better paired with an appropriate brew, and the brewers think that seafood provides a great complement to their beers- what luck!
On Friday July 25th, we'll be kicking things off with our friends from Lightning Brewery. A fairly new brewery on the scene, Lightning is located up in Poway and brews a killer wheat beer called Thunderweizen- those of you who came into the bistro when we had it on tap gave it rave reviews, so we'll be featuring that one along with their Elemental Pilsner, which goes well with a large number of items on our menu. Their other beers, namely an Amber Ale, Kolsch and summer specialty beer Ionizer Lager, will also be available to try and buy!
Following that, we're planning to host additional breweries and feature one of their beers on draft (for a special price) each week starting on Fridays. They'll be here at the restaurant with us on Fridays and/or Saturdays and we'll have the featured beer on tap until it runs out.
This schedule is subject to possible changes, so check back for updates as each weekend approaches.
August 1st - Oh No! Everyone's out of town at the Bluesapalooza in Mammoth!
August 8th - Stone Brewing
August 15th - Mission Brewery
August 22nd - Ballast Point Brewing
August 29th - (Labor Day Weekend) - Coronado Brewing
September 5th - Karl Strauss
September 12th - Alesmith Brewing
September 19th - Port Brewing, TBD
In addition to the brewers, we've invited the fishermen we've been working with to hang out with us and share some of their great stories. Buck Everingham, owner of the sardine fishing company here in San Diego, said he'd be stopping by on the 27th and some of his crew will be here on the 25th and 26th. Romolo Ghio, John Law and some of the other fishermen will also be hanging out with us at various times. So come on by and say hello to the fishermen who make our boat-to-throat menu possible!
We look forward to having a brew with you at the bistro!

Old Friends
David & Madeline Rogers (not verified) — Thu, 07/24/2008 - 05:40Elena,
You may or may not remember us, but we knew your mom and dad well when we lived in K'Town. Madeline and I taught at KAHS with your dad, the librarian. We left Germany in '87 and have lost touch with most of our friends in the intervening years. We would love to get back in touch with them and any other of our friends from those bygone days.
I googled Al Rivellino and came up with the bread article. Fate is sometimes kind. So... if you would be so kind and give your parents my e-mail address so they can write us, I would sincerely appreciate it. Thank you so much, Elena.

AWESOME! Beer lovers unite!
Paul Gagnon (not verified) — Tue, 07/22/2008 - 07:55Seriously, a great idea. Many of these brewers are my idols (being a homebrewer) and I would certainly like to see how to pair great beer with great seafood. Not to mention, these brewers have a WEALTH of knowledge to share about their craft.
Looking forward to rubbing elbows again with many of them.
Paul
As a true beer
Andrew (not verified) — Fri, 08/15/2008 - 10:50As a true beer lover/nerd/advocate I commend you for promoting the local beer scene and how the brews these people make can go with some fresh, kick ass seafood.
Looking forward to coming in and sampling a bit of both!!!
