American Tuna & Ballast Point Beer Pairing Dinner, May 5th
dennis — Sat, 04/11/2009 - 18:21
You probably saw that I'm really excited about our tuna melts made with American Albacore tuna. The flavor of this sustainably caught tuna will change how you think about tuna melts, and about canned tuna in general.
To kick off our new sandwich (which were serving as of today actually), we'll be holding a tuna and beer pairing dinner on Tuesday, May 5th at 6:30pm at our large communal table with Natalie, Joel, and some of the other friends at American Albacore, along with Jeff Brancato (South Park resident and Ballast Point cellar manager) and his buddies from the brewery. The dinner will be 4 courses for $35 excluding tax and tip. Email elena@searocketbistro.com or call 619-997-8043 to RSVP. We think this dinner is going to very popular and may sell out soon, so if your interested, be sure to RSVP asap. We may change the seating arrangements or do multiple seatings if it gets too crowded.
Natalie and Joel have a deeper understanding of sustainable seafood than most, so this is a unique opportunity for you to meet them in a fun dinner setting. And when I met Jeff from Ballast Point at a party in South Park, I found out that this guy not only knows beer, but he's able to explain the details of the art of brewing it in a very understandable way. So if you love beer and sustainable seafood, this is a dinner you don't want to miss. And because we don't want you to miss it, we're keeping the price down to $35, instead of our normal $45 for dinners like this.
Below is the basic menu. Each item will be paired with the perfect Ballast Point beer for what you are eating.
Course 1: Nicoise Salad - baby lettuce, hard-boiled South Park pastured eggs, french heirloom red potatoes, tomatoes, blue lake beans, seedless cucumbers and American tuna with a balsamic vinaigrette. We're pairing this with Pescadero Pilsner which is a lager brewed with German Pilsener Malt and 100% Czech Saaz hops. 5.4 % alcohol by volume (abv).
Course 2: Tuna Melt - on Cardamom Cafe ciabatta, with lemon aioli, thin sliced red onion and tomatoes. This is paired with Calico Amber Ale which uses American hops that give it a crisp bitterness to balance the malt and a hint of floral aroma. 5% abv.
Course 3: Seared Albacore Loin - with avocado and cucumber salsa, and warm herbed couscous. This is paired with Sculpin IPA which is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. It's lighter body brings out the crispness of the hops. 7% abv.
Course 4: Chocolate Stout Cake with tangerine sauce and whipped cream. We're having this with a special batch of cocoa nib infused Black Marlin Porter poured on your English hand pump. Black Marlin is a dark, creamy, velvet smooth American style porter with a 6 % abv.
