A Little TLC...

Clairemont Mesa Boulevard is a long street. I thought I knew the boulevard pretty well, but then I talked to Carol Morse. I found a message from Carol Morse in a San Diego Food Not Lawns email about the TLC Giving Garden and thought I'd see if she would be able to provide some produce to our restaurant. As I drove east over the 15, the atmosphere changed and I was soon standing in the shade, 9 miles from the restaurant, talking about how this garden came to be.
Carol's garden exists thanks to her church that is using the garden as a way of creating community and giving food to those in need. The TLC Giving Garden will be a community garden, meaning that individuals will have their own plots. Community gardens in San Diego are in high demand and every one of them seems to have a year long waiting list. I signed up for the Pacific Beach community garden almost a year ago, but I'm either still waiting or someone else who is more persistent got my plot. The motivation behind the community gardens isn't financial, so the price for a plot is generally very low and the demand high.
After spending $1,500 here and $1,500 there to install fences (protection from deer and other animals in the nearby canyons) and water pipes, the garden will soon be ready. Look for the brown to turn to green...
Contact Carol if you are interested in the garden. Her phone number is 858-688-2949 email is TLCGivingGarden@gmail.com.
