Chesapeake Fish Company

Chesapeake Fish Company was started in San Diego in 1915. The comany is so named because a major part of his business initially was selling oysters brought in from Chesapeake Bay on the east coast. In 2002, three long term employees of the company purchased it. Most of their seafood comes from local waters, but they also purchase from other parts of the world. The unique thing about Chesapeake is that they are located on the waterfront. Boats pull up directly to their facility and unload their catch.

They sell more than 12 million pounds of fish each year and have a 20,000 square foot warehouse in downtown San Diego.

They sell mainly to supermarkets, restaurants, and distributors in Southern California, delivering six days a week.

I spoke with Bob Pringle who has been with the company 11 years. He can be reached at bobp@chesapeake.com, 619-238-0526, or 619-884-2657. Bob did mention that it could be hard to arrange to go out on a boat with a fisherman unless you know one of them.
