Bernardo Winery

I went to Bernardo Winery looking for San Diego-made olive oil, but instead found a treasure trove of picturesque antiques. The winery was started in 1889, then bought by an immigrant from Sicily in 1927, and is still owned by the family now. The grounds are tastefully decorated with old things you might have found in the old west. There were so many things to photograph, in fact, that I was a little overwhelmed! Below are a couple photos and here are some more photos you might enjoy.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find local olive oil. They sell olive oil, but it's made somewhere else. The same goes for the olive oil at Orfila Winery. I have a lead for local avocado oil and will let you know if it comes through. What a fun little treasure hunt I'm finding myself on!
Bernardo Winery has a farmers market from 9 to noon each Friday, so if you want to visit, that could be a fun time to go.

And if you want to know where I may have picked up my interest in this style of decorating, take a look at this photo of my dad in the house where I grew up. I don't think everything in this photo is "period correct" (we did have electricity), but my dad gets really in to reinacting the 1860s mountain man era.
